Sometimes, erasing sensitive data is the best way to make sure that it won't fall in the wrong hands. The application is capable of deleting and overwriting data multiple times, until there is nothing left to recover. With a 700 MHz processor or better and at least 10 MB of RAM, Lavasoft File Shredder can run without any problems, on Windows XP or any later edition. It takes only a few seconds to install the application and you don't have to meet any special requirements. Lavasoft File Shredder is not free, but a fully functional trial version is available, which can be used for 30 days.

File shredding is the application's only capability, but it provides several shredding alternatives, which are aimed directly at specific file types. Besides shredding files and folders of your choice, using one of three algorithms, the software can also shred the recycle bin's contents, temporary data and wipe the free space on the hard drive. The operations are presented on a compact user interface and you can prepare and run them on a separate window.

All shredding processes can be prepared without any effort. All you have to do is load or select files, choose an algorithm and click a button to start shredding. The free space wiper can be used on local partitions, as well as removable drives. It provides a larger number of shredding algorithms for this purpose and you can set it to wipe all free and unused disk space and set it to extra thorough shredding mode.
